Address to women by writer Ivande Kaija to donate their valuables for national defence and the establishment of Latvian Women's Gold Foundation served as a basis for the establishment of the State Gold Fund.

To help the defenders of Riga in their fight against the Bermont army, writer Ivande Kaija called on Latvian women to come to the aid of the government in providing financing to the army by donating family valuables. Ivande Kaija wrote in her address: "A straight question – how much of your gold are you ready to give up now that your country is asking you for help, when your men are pledging their lives for the freedom of our nation and our fatherland? [..] Do not hesitate to give up all your gold, so that Latvia can be proud of her women's gold foundation." To collect these donations, Latvian Women's Gold Foundation was established. Upon the establishment of Latvijas Banka, the valuables donated to Latvian Women's Gold Foundation were deposited with the bank. 99 boxes, six suitcases, three baskets and one small bag were used to accommodate all donations.
