The Financial and Capital Market Commission (FCMC) with FinTech sector partners will hold an online discussion: Latvia – as the New Home for Global FinTech, on 9 December from 11 to 13, in which representatives of European and Latvian FinTech companies and industry experts will discuss advantages of the Latvian FinTech ecosystem and opportunities to develop business by obtaining an operating licence in Latvia.
In the first part of the discussion "Improvement of Latvian ecosystem creates opportunities of being located in Latvia", payment institution representatives and industry experts will outline the FinTech environment in Latvia, discuss its development prospects and benefits of choosing Latvia as a location for licensing and developing the FinTech business. The discussion will be attended by Renāts Lokomets, Strategical Partner at Venture Faculty, Andrejs Bosko, Board Member at the Association of Latvian Payment and Electronic Money Service Providers, Guntars Gudermanis, Member of the Board at SIA Paysera Latvia, Marine Krasovska, Director of Financial Innovation Department of the FCMC, Mats Taraldsson, Head of Innovation, Fintech and Impact-tech Engagement at Mastercard Nordics and Baltics and Johan Modenius, Head of Banking Relationship at Mastercard Nordics & Baltics. The discussion will be chaired by Darja Dubiņina, CEO at Crassula. In the second part of the discussion "Challenges of Latvian regulatory regime: new era of Latvian financial sector", financial market participants and the FCMC representatives will discuss the FinTech sector regulation in Latvia, the licensing process and cooperation with the industry regulator and other market participants. In the opening of the discussion, the FCMC experts will present the process of licensing, requirements for obtaining a licence and the prevention of money laundering, as well as the support from the FCMC in the licensing process. The discussion will be attended by Mārtiņš Valters, co-founder of SIA Mintos Payments, the company that obtained a licence to operate the electronic money institution from the FCMC this year, Staņislavs Siņakovičs, Head of Sales and Regional Development of the joint stock company LPB Bank, Ivan Zhiznevskiy, Managing Director of the payment service institution 3S Money, as well as experts of the FCMC: Agnese Alaine, Head of Licensing Division and Sandra Mielava, Head of Non-Banking Audit Division.
