477.4 million customer non-cash payments totalling 597.1 billion euro were executed in Latvia by Latvian payment service providers in the first half of 2026. This averaged 2.6 million payments worth 3.3 billion euro per day.
The total volume and value of non-cash payments made by customers in the first half of 2026 increased by 6% and 2% respectively in comparison with the first half of 2025.
In the first half of 2026, the use of non-cash payments in Latvia continued its upward trend. Compared with the first half of 2025, both the volume and the value of non-cash payments increased, confirming the growing role of non-cash payments in everyday transactions.
As in previous years, the most popular non-cash payments were card payments and customer credit transfers, constituting 59% and 36% of the total volume of non-cash payments respectively.
The volume and the value of credit transfers, excluding intrabank payments, reached 58 million payments totalling 85 billion euro (increases of 9% and 12% respectively).
With the growing number of customer credit transfers, instant payments are becoming increasingly important in everyday transactions, accounting for more than one quarter of all customer credit transfers.
To ensure card payments, 2.3 million payment cards had been issued by Latvian payment service providers by the end of the first half of 2026 (1.2 cards per capita on average).
Residents had access to 62.8 thousand points of sale (POS), 869 ATMs in Latvia, as well as 7 ATMs operated by Latvian payment service providers abroad. At the end of the first half of 2026, the number of customer payment accounts opened by Latvian payment service providers totalled 3.2 million or 1.7 payment accounts per capita on average.
