934 million non-cash payments totalling 1.2 trillion euro were made in Latvia in 2025

In 2025, 934 million customer non-cash payments totalling 1.2 trillion euro were executed by Latvian payment service providers (credit institutions, electronic money institutions, payment institutions, credit unions, Latvijas Banka, and the Treasury). This averaged 2.6 million payments worth 3.3 billion euro per day.

In 2025, the volume and value of non-cash payments made by customers increased by 7% and 11% respectively, compared to 2024. In 2025, 60% of all payments were made with payment cards, while 36% were customer credit transfers; the recorded volume of both card payments and credit transfers increased.

The growth in the total value of payments was mainly driven by credit transfers. Their volume and value, excluding intrabank payments, reached 111.3 million payments totalling 162.1 billion euro – an 11% increase in the volume of payments and a 10% increase in their value.

35 thousand fraudulent payments totalling 10.5 million euro were made in 2025. The volume of fraudulent payments increased by 9%, while the value decreased by 12%. On average, 19 fraudulent credit transfers and 77 fraudulent card payments were made each day.

By the end of 2025, Latvian payment service providers had issued 2.3 million payment cards to individuals (averaging 1.2 cards per capita).

Customers of Latvian payment service providers had access to 51.3 thousand point-of-sale (POS) terminals and 867 ATMs in Latvia, as well as 7.8 thousand POS terminals and 7 ATMs operated by Latvian payment service providers abroad. By the end of 2025, Latvian payment service providers held 3.2 million payment accounts of natural persons, averaging 1.7 payment accounts per capita.
