Monetary Policy Department

Tasks

• assesses the state and development of the economy of Latvia and the euro area,
• participates in the development of the Eurosystem's monetary policy, including by formulating Latvijas Banka's position on the potential changes in the Eurosystem's single monetary policy,
• analyses the impact of the single monetary policy implemented by the Eurosystem, 

Structure of the department

Monetary Policy Analysis Division

• performs a comprehensive analysis of the euro area economy and financial markets and an analysis of the monetary policy, formulating Latvijas Banka's position on the Eurosystem's single monetary policy, proposed changes and solutions,
• analyses the current situation in the financial market,
• ensures the exchange of the day-to-day data on liquidity with the ECB, 
• oversees the minimum reserve maintenance applicable to credit institutions and savings and loans associations,

Macroeconomic Analysis Division

• performs the macroeconomic analysis in Latvia,
• analyses the economic situation of Latvia's major trade partner countries,
• projects Latvia's economic development,
• prepares studies and publications on relevant macroeconomic topics, 
• assesses proposals and prepares recommendations on economic policy matters to Latvia's institutions,

Research Division

• studies the development trends in the macroeconomic fundamentals and their interaction,
• develops and maintains the economic modelling instruments necessary for implementing the key tasks of the Monetary Policy Department,
• performs economic modelling to study various economic matters.
