Market Operations Department

Tasks

• maintains the value of Latvijas Banka's deposits and ensures their liquidity,
• gains income,
• participates in the implementation of the Eurosystem's monetary policy,
• holds the government's cash assets in foreign currencies

Structure of the department

Trading and Investment Division

• analyses information on the global financial markets and investment vehicles,
• develops the strategy for managing Latvijas Banka's investment managed by Latvijas Banka and implements Latvijas Banka's investment management strategy,
• participates in the management of part of the foreign currency reserve assets of the European Central Bank,
• performs transactions with the financial institutions of the Republic of Latvia and foreign countries,
• organises the Eurosystem's monetary policy operations.

Risk Management Division

• controls the compliance of Latvijas Banka's investment portfolios and individual transactions to the investment management guidelines,
• assesses Latvijas Banka's investments and calculates the yield and profit distribution,
• oversees, assesses and coordinates work with external managers,
• assesses the risks related to the management of Latvijas Banka's investment,
• ensures the assessment of Latvijas Banka's investment and the financial collateral of the transactions of the Eurosystem's monetary policy operations
