Māris Kālis

Deputy Governor

On 5 March 2020, the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia appointed Māris Kālis Deputy Governor of Latvijas Banka for a term of five years, which ended on 12 March 2025. On 6 March 2025, the Saeima re-elected Māris Kālis Deputy Governor of Latvijas Banka for a second five-year term, which will end on 12 March 2030.

Since 2020, Māris Kālis has served as Deputy Governor at the Bank of Latvia. He is responsible for central banking activities, including the oversight of financial stability, market operations and management of financial investments. Prior to his current position, Māris held a variety of leadership roles within the Bank, including a 13-year tenure as Chairman of the Executive Board.

In addition to his career at the Bank, Māris has lectured on financial management and reporting at the University of Latvia and lent his experience as an expert in technical assistance programmes of the International Monetary Fund. Before joining the Bank of Latvia, Māris worked as Assurance and Business Advisory Projects Manager at Arthur Andersen, an international business assurance and consultancy firm.

Māris holds a Master of Social Sciences degree in Economics from the University of Latvia and is a member of the Latvian Association of Certified Auditors.
