Cash Department

Tasks

• promotes smooth and safe cash circulation in the country,
• performs the identification of banknotes and coins with signs of counterfeiting and damaged euro and lats banknotes and coins,
• checks the compliance of cash handler operation with the requirements of the legal acts governing cash handling

Structure of the department

Cash Policy and Operations Division

• analyses cash circulation in the country,
• organises the purchase and quality check of euro banknotes and coins and their receipt and dispatch to the national central banks of other euro area countries,
• ensures the compliance with the requirements for reproducing euro and lats banknotes and coins and the control of Latvijas Banka's work as regards money and other valuables

Cash Technology Division

• coordinates the maintenance and development of the information systems related to cash circulation,
• performs the functions of the National Counterfeit Centre, the National Analysis Centre and the Coin National Analysis Centre,
• ensures the servicing, maintenance and operational continuity of Latvijas Banka's cash processing equipment and Latvijas Banka's vault door keys

Rīga Branch

• ensures accounting and storage of the banknotes and coins stock and other valuables under the responsibility of the Branch of Latvijas Banka and cash handling,
• ensures Latvijas Banka's customer service by accepting and releasing cash
