Today, the Saeima took a decision to elect Andris Strazds, economist and Head of the General Secretariat of Latvijas Banka, as Deputy Governor of the central bank. His term of office will begin on 1 October 2026, when he will succeed Māris Kālis, the current Deputy Governor of Latvijas Banka, whose term of office will then come to an end.
His areas of responsibility at Latvijas Banka will be financial management, asset management, financial stability, and personnel management.

Andris Strazds has been working at Latvijas Banka since February 2014. He has been Head of the General Secretariat of Latvijas Banka since 31 July 2023. Before joining Latvijas Banka, Andris Strazds worked as Chief Economist at the Latvian Branch of Nordea Bank Finland Plc, Manager in the Transaction and Financial Consulting Division at PricewaterhouseCoopers SIA, and Head of Strategic Development at SIA Lattelecom. He holds a Master's Degree in International Finance and Business Strategy from the Stockholm School of Economics in Sweden.
