Bank of Latvia

Introduction

In this section, the Bank of Latvia provides the description of the sector of other financial intermediaries, except insurance corporations and pension funds, (OFI) and publishes the data collected by the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia (CSB) on leasing companies, which currently are the most significant type of OFIs in Latvia.

In the publications of 2004, the CSB data for previous periods were revised and published together with the data for the subsequent reporting period. From 2005, when publishing the new data and description of the OFI sector, the entire publication of the previous quarter was updated, if the respective data were revised.

As of 2006, the CSB has introduced a new statistical report 3-FAP "Financial Assets and Liabilities" that requires OFIs reporting to the CSB to prepare quarterly balance sheet statistics providing more comprehensive information on financial assets and liabilities. Information compiled in accordance with the new requirements is available beginning with the data of the fourth quarter of 2005. The new outline of financial assets and liabilities gives a more complete picture of OFI activities and has been approximated to the requirements of the European Central Bank (ECB). This allows the Bank of Latvia to use these data to compile the aggregated balance sheet of leasing companies in accordance with the ECB Guideline of 6 February 2003 concerning certain statistical reporting requirements of the European Central Bank and the procedures for reporting by the national central banks of statistical information in the field of money and banking statistics (ECB/2003/2).
