International Monetary Fund
The International Monetary Fund (IMF, http://www.imf.org) is an international organization that was established in Bretton Woods in July 1944 with the aim of promoting international monetary cooperation and exchange stability, fostering economic growth and employment, and providing short-term financial assistance to its members to solve their balance of payments problems. At present, 186 countries are members of the IMF.
Latvia joined the IMF on May 19, 1992. The Bank of Latvia is the coordinating institution for the IMF affairs in Latvia. Latvia's interests in the IMF administration are represented by the Nordic and Baltic Constituency.
