The Bank of Latvia maintains three payment systems: the SAMS, EKS and TARGET2-Latvija. In the SAMS, settlement is executed only in lats; TARGET2-Latvija makes settlement only in euro whereas the EKS ensures settlement in both lats and euro.

For each system, a separate list of participants has been provided; for the EKS, there is an additional note where a participant participates in settlements in one currency only.

The payment system operation is regulated by System Rules for Participation in the SAMS, System Rules for Participation in the EKS and System Rules for Participation in TARGET2-Latvija respectively.
