A metallic clear text window thread with the lettering of the nominal value and holograms is incorporated in the paper across the full width of the reverse of the banknote. It is only partly visible on the surface of the banknote. The band is fully visible when the banknote is held up to the light. The banknotes of all denominations printed in 1992 contain a metallic clear text window thread with the lettering LATVIJAS BANKA and are without holograms.
The portrait of a Latvian folk-maid in profile is incorporated in the white margin of the banknote and is visible when the banknote is held to the light.
A vertical relief band in the left-hand lower corner on the obverse of the banknote features the numerals of nominal values that are repeated four times and produce an optical effect of changing colours, depending on the angle of viewing.
A stylised representation of an oak-leaf is located in the central area on the obverse and reverse of the banknote. When the banknote is held up to the light, the two sides of the oak-leaf match perfectly, forming an integral design of an oak-leaf.
A latent image is incorporated in the ornamental band on the right-hand margin of the obverse of the banknote. The denomination in figures is visible when the banknote is viewed at an oblique angle to catch the light.
A special engraving technique is used to print the following elements on the obverse of the banknote: - the ornamental band on the right-hand side, - the motif in the central area, - the denomination in letters and figures on the left-hand side, - the sign (Braille) for the visually impaired.
A colour-shifting ink is used to print the nominal value of the banknote in letters in the left-hand corner on the obverse of the banknotes. This special ink produces an optical effect of changing colours depending on the angle of viewing. The lettering of the nominal value in special ink is printed in the left-hand corner on the obverse of the 500-lats banknote printed in 2008.
A transparent window is incorporated in the vertical translucent band and features a red semicircle of the Sun on a light background and the lettering "Ls" in four displaced lines on a dark background.
