Regulation for Reproducing the Lats Banknotes and Coins

Article 17.1 of the Copyright Law
1. This regulation establishes requirements to be met when reproducing
the lats banknotes and coins.
2. Terms used:
2.1 dpi - a measure of image resolution expressed as a number
of individual dots that can be placed within one linear inch (2.54 cm);
2.2 reproduction - one or more copies of a lats banknote or
coin that uses images of a lats banknote or coin, either in full or in
part, or parts of its individual design elements
produced by any means irrespective of the scope or technique (including
electronically).
3. A reproduction of a lats banknote shall comply with one of the
following criteria:
3.1 the size of the one-sided reproduction of a lats banknote
is at least 125% of both the length and width or at most 75% of both
the length and width of the respective lats banknote;
3.2 the size of the two-sided reproduction of a
lats banknote is at least 150% of both the length and width or at most
50% of both the length and width of the respective lats banknote;
3.3 reproductions of individual design elements of a lats
banknote are not depicted on a background resembling the colour and
design of a banknote;
3.4 reproductions are made of a material, which looks
distinctly different from the material (paper) used for lats
banknotes.
4. Reproductions of a lats banknote made available electronically shall
comply with the following criteria:
4.1 the word SPECIMEN is printed diagonally across the
reproduction on the obverse and reverse
of the banknote. The length of the word is at least 75% of the length
of the reproduction and the height is at least 15% of the width of the
reproduction. The word SPECIMEN is in a non-transparent colour
contrasting with the dominant colour of the respective lats banknote;
4.2 the resolution of the electronic reproduction in the
original size of the respective lats banknote does not exceed 72 dpi.
5. The lats coins can be reproduced:
5.1 on a flat surface (drawings, paintings, photographs,
images, etc);
5.2 on objects which cannot be taken for the lats coins and
on tokens of any material that are at least 50% larger or at least 50%
smaller that the respective lats coins.
6. As an exception, the Bank of Latvia can, upon receiving a written
request, issue permission to make reproductions of such lats banknotes
and coins that do not comply with the criteria of paragraphs 3-5 of
this Regulation, insofar as they cannot be mistaken by the general
public for genuine lats banknotes or coins.
7. The Bank of Latvia Council Resolution No. 116/11 "On Approving
"Regulation for Reproducing the Lats Banknotes and Coins"" of 13
January 2005 (Latvijas Vestnesis, 2005, No. 13) is
hereby repealed.
8. The Regulation shall enter into force on 21 January 2009.
